We already been to a lot of places in Taiwan and blogged about those amazing tourist destinations like the wonders of oldstreets in Shifen and Jiufen, the amazing view at the top of Elephant mountain, the awesome trekking experience in Taroko Gorge, the exhausting but fun hike to Mt. Qixing, and a lot more. However, you can’t complete your Taipei trip without going to one of Taiwan’s most visited tourist spots, Yehliu Geopark.
This 1.7 kilometer landscape, located in Taiwan’s Guanyinshuan National Scenic Area, is a home to a number of unique rock formations caused by geological factors such as sea erosions. In the ancient times, Yehliu is considered as the key route for trading between the Mainland China and Keelung Harbor though the waters around the area is torrential and dangerous. According to stories centuries ago, the main source of living of the locals here were rice stolen through sticking sharp bamboo tubes to the sacks for it to slip out. This is why the park is called Yehliu because “Yeh” sounds like the Taiwanese term for savage, and “Liu” for steal.
As you go through inside the park, you’ll see an unusual landscape that will make you feel you are in a different world and be in awe how wonderful Earth is. You’ll see rocks that look like mushrooms, candlesticks, honeycombed configurations, and bean curd. You can even play with your imagination!
The most iconic spot here in Yehliu though is the Queen’s Head. However, you had to queue in order to take a photo with it. Since the queue is just short that time (we’ve been here many times but this is our first time to take a photo with the Queen’s head, haha), we went through with it.
Although it was really hot, just walking through the trail with the mountainous views and seeing big waves, will keep your stress away and just purely appreciate nature itself.
The entrance is only 80NTD that will already let you discover the whole park. Whether it’s a weekday or a weekend, the park is really crowded. You just need to be patient enough to take turns in taking photos to some of the rock formations. You can even ask some of the tourists to take a photo of you and your group.
After coming to this place a couple of times, I can say that Yehliu Geopark is definitely should be on your bucket list while visiting here in Taiwan especially to those people who are interested in photography and nature.
Here are some tips that will come in handy when you you go to this awesome park:
- Umbrella or a hat for protection.
- Sunscreen, if you don’t want to get tanned.
- Camera (of course!) for picture taking.
- I don’t recommend coming during summer because it’s seriously hot!
- For girls, make sure to wear clothes that will not easily blown up by the wind
You can go to the park in a variety of ways:
- Take BUS#862 from TAMSUI MRT Station => 1.5 hours => 90NTD
- Take the KUO-KUANG BUS from TAIPEI MAIN MRT Station => 1.5 hours => 85NTD
- Hop on to the KEELUNG BUS #1062 from TAIPEI MAIN BUS Station =>1.5 hours => 96NTD
At any time of the day, the crowd is just crazy and it’s really hard to take beautiful photographs in the park. If you have more time, you can try and visit Yehliu Ocean World located just beside the Yehliu Geopark’s entrance.
I’ve never been too Taiwan but it’s definitely on my bucket list now, this looks cool. Thanks for sharing it!
