It was my birthday and during that time, I just want to eat in a buffet restaurant around Taipei that serves delicious food and is worth every penny. As we were searching through Uncle Google, we bumped into Bear-1 (熊一), an EAT-ALL-YOU-CAN yakiniku and hotpot restaurant. We didn’t hesitate to go and try this restaurant since we read many great reviews over the internet. The restaurant is so accessible and is just a walking distance from Exit 6 of Ximen Station (blue line). See the map below on how to get there.
If you go after the cheapest rate and you have a lot of time, you can dine in on a weekday from 11:30-16:00 which would only cost 498NT$ + 10% service charge. If you opted to dine in from 16:00-02:00 or on a weekend, you will be paying 100NT$ more or 598NT$ + 10% service charge. Also, for special/premium kind of meat, you need to pay an additional 100NT$ per pax. The restaurant gets full easily, so I think it is better to call (02 2370 8468) the restaurant ahead of time for your reservation.
As soon as you are seated, you will be given a menu from which you can choose a different varieties of pork, chicken, beef, seafood, and vegetables. In every order, you can only choose 8 kinds of food with a maximum of 3 sets each. In our case, we ordered up to its limit of 24 sets.
I recommend ordering pork slices which are for me one of the yummiest selections here. They are all very appealing and because of the variety of choices, we haven’t been able to try all and by that time we were already full. We just ordered twice as they provide large servings. After all, when it comes to buffet, most people are after the meat.
If you are a vegan, you might not like this restaurant because most of the food choices are meat. But aside from the yakiniku and hotpot, they have different selections of salad, pasta, side dishes, fruits, drinks, and ice cream at their center counter as well. What I like the most is their Movenpick and Häagen-Dazs ice cream!!! Though we were already full, THERE’S ALWAYS ROOM FOR DESSERT!
The place is really famous to both locals and foreigners that is why they are very strict with the 2-hour limit. Be sure to not leave a large amount of left overs since they will charge 200NT$. Just order what you think would be enough for you.
TIPS:
- Be sure to come to this restaurant with an empty stomach to enjoy most of the food in the restaurant.
- Do not consume too much rice and drinks since this would easily make you full.
- Call the restaurant ahead of time to make a reservation.
- Better to visit the restaurant at lunch time to save more money. You may not want to eat too much dinner by then.
